Copyright registration is a legal process that grants creators exclusive rights to their original works, such as literature, music, and art. By registering with the relevant authority, an author enhances their ability to enforce these rights against infringement, establish a public record of ownership, and potentially qualify for statutory damages in legal disputes. While copyright protection is automatic upon creation, registration is a valuable step that strengthens legal claims and provides additional protections.
It is not mandatory to get copyright protection but always advisable to do so because it will give the owner a certain set of minimum rights over his work and the protection that no one will be able to copy his work for a minimum period of time. Copyright registration with the authority ensures that creative work of the author cannot be imitated. No person is authorized to use the same without the permission of the author or creator. Copyright registration is done in accordance with the Copyright Act, 1957.
